Fieldpiece was incorporated in June, 1990 by Rey Harju to develop digital multimeters specially for field service technicians. Rey gained his insight into the market as the marketing and Sales manager at Beckman Instrument's digital multimeter group and Director of marketing and Sales at ITT/Pomona where he marketed test accessories to companies including Fluke, Tektronix, and Hewlett Packard.

Fieldpiece designed the multimeters and accessories to fill the needs of field service technicians. The DMMs were tooled in Taiwan and are manufactured by the most successful DMM manufacturer in the Far East, a company with whom Rey has had a relationship for nearly 20 years. In addition to the tooling for the plastic cases, an investment of several hundred thousand dollars was made in surface mounted device manufacturing equipment to meet size and ruggedness requirements.

Fieldpiece also has designed a complete line of custom accessories for the Fieldpiece DMMs. Some of the accessories were tooled in Taiwan and some in the US. The line of accessories continues to grow.

Fieldpiece markets products in North America through sales representative organizations and 2000 distributor locations. Fieldpiece maintains inventory to ship most products off the shelf within 24 hours.
